Genesis 35:1-29
1. God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel, and settle there. Make an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau."
2. So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you, and purify yourselves, and change your clothes;
3. then come, let us go up to Bethel, that I may make an altar there to the God who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone."
4. So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods that they had, and the rings that were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak that was near Shechem.
5. As they journeyed, a terror from God fell upon the cities all around them, so that no one pursued them.
6. Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him,
7. and there he built an altar and called the place El-bethel, because it was there that God had revealed himself to him when he fled from his brother.
8. And Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried under an oak below Bethel. So it was called Allon-bacuth.
9. God appeared to Jacob again when he came from Paddan-aram, and he blessed him.
10. God said to him, "Your name is Jacob; no longer shall you be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name." So he was called Israel.
11. God said to him, "I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall spring from you.
12. The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give the land to your offspring after you."
13. Then God went up from him at the place where he had spoken with him.
14. Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he had spoken with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.
15. So Jacob called the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.
16. Then they journeyed from Bethel; and when they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel was in childbirth, and she had hard labor.
17. When she was in her hard labor, the midwife said to her, "Do not be afraid; for now you will have another son."
18. As her soul was departing (for she died), she named him Ben-oni; but his father called him Benjamin.
19. So Rachel died, and she was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem),
20. and Jacob set up a pillar at her grave; it is the pillar of Rachel's tomb, which is there to this day.
21. Israel journeyed on, and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Eder.
22. While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine; and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.
23. The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob's firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.
24. The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
25. The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's maid: Dan and Naphtali.
26. The sons of Zilpah, Leah's maid: Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan-aram.
27. Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre, or Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had resided as aliens.
28. Now the days of Isaac were one hundred eighty years.
29. And Isaac breathed his last; he died and was gathered to his people, old and full of days; and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

4. Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau; Basemath bore Reuel;
5. and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These are the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.
6. Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the members of his household, his cattle, all his livestock, and all the property he had acquired in the land of Canaan; and he moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob.
7. For their possessions were too great for them to live together; the land where they were staying could not support them because of their livestock.

7. But the LORD sits enthroned forever, he has established his throne for judgment.
8. He judges the world with righteousness; he judges the peoples with equity.
9. The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
10. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.

Proverbs 3:27-30
27. Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.
28. Do not say to your neighbor, "Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it"-- when you have it with you.
29. Do not plan harm against your neighbor who lives trustingly beside you.
30. Do not quarrel with anyone without cause, when no harm has been done to you.

Matthew 12:22-50
22. Then they brought to him a demoniac who was blind and mute; and he cured him, so that the one who had been mute could speak and see.
23. All the crowds were amazed and said, "Can this be the Son of David?"
24. But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, "It is only by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons, that this fellow casts out the demons."
25. He knew what they were thinking and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.
26. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand?
27. If I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your own exorcists cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.
28. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come to you.
29. Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his property, without first tying up the strong man? Then indeed the house can be plundered.
30. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
31. Therefore I tell you, people will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
32. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
33. "Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.
34. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good things, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
35. The good person brings good things out of a good treasure, and the evil person brings evil things out of an evil treasure.
36. I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter;
37. for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."
38. Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, "Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you."
39. But he answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
40. For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so for three days and three nights the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth.
41. The people of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and see, something greater than Jonah is here!
42. The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and see, something greater than Solomon is here!
43. "When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it wanders through waterless regions looking for a resting place, but it finds none.
44. Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' When it comes, it finds it empty, swept, and put in order.
45. Then it goes and brings along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and live there; and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So will it be also with this evil generation."
46. While he was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers were standing outside, wanting to speak to him.
47. Someone told him, "Look, your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you."
48. But to the one who had told him this, Jesus replied, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?"
49. And pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers!
50. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."
